  GIRLFRIENDS BIBLE STUDY

The Girlfriends Bible Study will be starting up again on September 16th at 7:00 pm at the church. We will be doing a 12-week Beth Moore study entitled, “Daniel . . . lives of integrity, words of prophecy”. Cost of the workbook is approximately $18.00. If cost is an issue, the church will see that you get a book.

Here is what one participant had to say about the study:

I have done many of Beth Moore’s studies and have been blessed by every single one. This one, in my opinion, is one of her best, however. Its depth, ties into other Scripture and teaching of cultural background help you to live and breathe Daniel in a way that would not have been possible otherwise without the combination of all these things coming together. And, what a blessing to see even more clearly how Revelation is an extension of the truths in Daniel. Highly recommended!

Another participant had this to say:

We’re using this book in a small group study, and so far the Lord is shaking us up in a great way as we delve into the book of Daniel! We’re all very excited. The book is user-friendly, and coupled with the DVD series, brings our culture into perspective as we see similarities between our lives and Daniel’s.  We would love to see you there!

GAME CLOSET MINISTRY

Just an update on the game closet ministry.  We have received lots of balls.  Thank you so much.  (We need more Nerf balls.)  Now we are collecting ropes for jumping, tug ropes, and close line rope.  Also hula hoops, any homemade games and Nerf frisbees.  Thanks to everyone that is helping in the game closet ministry.

Time for Rock River Christian Camp Registration

It’s time to start planning for camp registration at Rock River Christian Camp.  The camp brochures have been sent to all those campers who attended camp last year, and there are brochures with registration forms at the church if you don’t have one.

There are camps available for ages first grade up through adults.  Here is a quick review of camps being offered:

Men’s Summit - September 24-25

If you are 13 - 18 years old, you might be interested in becoming a SAW (Servant At Work).  After attending a mandatory training session, you would then volunteer to work a week or weekend at camp.  You would then be eligible for a camp registration discount.

There are also some work days scheduled that may interest you. They are April 10 and May 15.  The camp depends on lots of volunteers to get work done at camp. This helps reduce their expenses and leads to more affordable camper registrations.  If you are interested in a work day at camp or have questions, please contact Roger Curry.

There are some early registration incentives .  If you register before April 30, there is a $10 discount for Teddy Bear and First Chance Camps and a $20 discount for all other camps.  If you miss that date but register before May 31, there is a $5 discount for Teddy Bear and First Chance Camps and a $10 discount for all other camps.  If you have more than one family member registering or if you bring a friend, there are discounts available as well.  This information is all explained in the camp brochure.

The church will also pay for half of your child’s registration up to $100.  Please see Cathy Lotz about getting a camp voucher for this money or if you have any questions concerning camp.

Time goes by quickly so start making your plans now for an awesome camp experience for you, your child, or your whole family!

 PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

In the middle of the third year of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, the women who meet once a month to knit or crochet together have done more than share the fellowship of people who love crafts.  Since 2007 at its inception, the group has had a goal to ‘warm up the world’, one prayer shawl or lap robe at a time.

Literally dozens of shawls and lap robes have been mailed and taken to people, young and old all over the U.S., from Fruitland, IA, to Texas, and Colona.  Baby items were sent with the Minnaerts on their trip to the orphanage in Guatemala.  Illini Restorative Care and Rosewood residents were given lap robes and prayer shawls and the latest trip was to Hope Creek, the new Rock Island County Nursing Home.  Twelve robes and a dozen shawls were appreciated, according to the thank you note from the activities director.  A while back, one precious fuzzy handmade blanket went to a very ill baby in a hurry.

In order to keep reaching people, the group would like to ask the congregation at Countryside for help.  First of all, if there are any people you know that needs a lift and a ‘warming up,’ please tell someone in the group.  We try very hard too personally deliver the items, but can mail them if necessary.

Secondly, like everything else, the price of yarn is going up.  We take advantage of sales, both retail and yard, and have been able to get some yarn at estate sales.  We obviously want clean, good yarn, and will happily accept leftovers from people who can no longer do crafts or have unfinished projects.  If anyone would care to donate funds for a shawl or lap robe, we would appreciate that also.  We watch those yarn sales closely.

Last but not least, we would like to invite anyone who would like to learn a craft to join us.  We have crocheters, knitters and even quilters in the group.  If you have a project started and would like to work and talk, come join us.  Feel free to visit just to see what we do.  If you have yarn that needs to be picked up, Just let Nancy Dufur, JoAnn McCoy, Margaret Bennett, Shirley Baxter, Pat Webb, Sue Wriedt, or Joanne Wiklund know.  Or bring it to church and leave it with Rita and she’ll see that we get it.  Thank you.

  What is Men's Fraternity?

Men's Fraternity is a series of three one-year-long studies, beginning with The Quest for Authentic Manhood, followed by Authentic Manhood; Winning at Work and Home, and concluding with The Great Adventure series.

Men's Fraternity was designed to help men come together and strengthen each other through weekly sessions that combine biblical teaching and small group interaction.

We at Countryside CC have recently finished our first session of The Quest.  We will be starting another session soon for The Quest and Authentic Manhood. Keep posted for updates and reminders. Plan to attend this great opportunity to grow as a MAN.
