Confident & Competent? Maybe Someday!

Scheduling my day seems easy when I start. With a yellow legal pad on a clear plastic clipboard, I make a To-Do list. I write my plans, then go through and prioritize each item. That’s the hard part, since my priorities sometimes change. A friend of mine has the same problem. She told me once that sometimes she stands and thinks, “Okay, now what do I have to do next?” It bothered her when that happened until she had a revelation. A mom, grandmother, even a great grandmother, she laughed and said, “It’s okay when I do that, because I remembered that if I stood here long enough, someone would come by and tell me what I was supposed to be doing!”

I relate to that. But with the pandemic, weather, and a lifechanging event, traffic here has been down almost to nil. That’s been good. Thank goodness for a strong family and good friends; I think I’m still in touch with reality.  At least on most days. I’m working through the quiet and I’m learning a lot again. There are so many grieving people to pray for; and children and babies come high on my list of needs to pray about. I can’t believe all those children coming to this country alone. My phone is my lifeline and I love to hear from people. Keeping busy is not a problem as long as I have yarn and a crochet hook. But I miss the days when I felt confident and competent. I told a boss once that if those two things came together at least twice a week, I felt pretty good. She suggested I raise my goal level.

If  you’re feeling less than either of those, though, join the club. We have a leader who is bringing us through all this. Make your list after you do your morning study and prayer time. While I think “Onward!” is where we all need to go, looking backward is not bad occasionally. It can be helpful if you’re remembering all the times He brought you through things you never would have believed you’d be asked to do. We are on the winning team and we need to remember that also.

Luke:18:16 Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Psalm 46:4-10 Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
