Last week I wrote about going forward, how difficult it is sometimes. Now I’m stuck in words. How much difference is there between “Start Over” and “Begin Again?” We get to choose the one we want to use. This one seemed at first I was splitting hairs. But I think not.
As a verb or a noun, start is a word we use often. We think of an emergence and of course, this time of year a kickoff. Begin is similar, often interchangeable with start. If we Begin we get underway, get going. An old saying that you should “buckle down, bend over, put your shoulder to wheel, put your hand on the plow, get moving” came from a farmer I’m sure. But someone added along the way, “Now try working in that position all day!”
Whether we Start Over or Begin Again,” I think is a matter of attitude. Do we think “Here We Go Again,” or “Move Ahead.” In the Bible, we often hear Jesus tell someone to get up.
If we “Begin Again” does that mean we go back to the start, or can we start where we left off? If we start over, can we get bogged down in how much we will have to redo? Sometimes a Begin Again in writing is splendid, and a Start Over brings a good edit.
Matthew 4:19 “And he saith unto them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Luke 17:19 “And Jesus said unto him, arise, go thy way, thy faith has made thee whole.”
