If you’re looking for a respite from all you have to do before Christmas gets here, just Google What Year Was Jesus Born? Wikipedia, not always reliable, said “most Biblical scholars say “between 6 & 4 AD.” It’s the most twisted, tangled and provocative treatise on the subject. The quoted references list at the end of the article is longer than the article itself. I’m not about to try to help you understand all the discussion within this time frame. But some say he was born in April; other sources prefer May or June. So if your celebration with your family or friends is a little early or late, don’t sweat it. Just be sure you celebrate Jesus’ birthday.
Are you all set for Christmas? Some of you may have started right after Christmas last year. Not me. I’m still thinking about some things I should get, do, remember, forget. But when I think that this holiday is around 2,000 years old, or that our calendar is based on what happened that year, I am amazed.
Well, not really. God never ceases to amaze me at what He has done, what He promised he would do, and how He’s always with us. But I have a son, and I love him dearly. He was and remains to be a gift to me, he and his family, and I consider that one of the best gifts ever. I try to remember always that God gave His Son to save us all. Who could top a gift like that?
Psalms 30:5 “For His anger endureth but a moment, in His favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Acts 2:21 “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Acts 12:23 “And the word of God grew and multiplied.”
