Grace is a Gift

by Joanne Wiklund

Sitting in the sun this morning in my recliner, eyes closed, enjoying the warmth, I was reminded that light is so important to us. Maybe it’s just me and my circumstances, but I think this has been one of the coldest and darkest Februarys on record. Never mind the snow and ice, it’s just seemed so dark everywhere. I’ve been looking for light.

I watch TV, generally TBN, with fewer commercials based in what disaster will hit you next if you don’t buy what they’re selling. Some stations are based on crime shows, and even the trailers they show for new series are full of crime and sorrow. I find some TBN shows are a good source of questions for me to try to answer. Is that really what the Bible says about that subject? Did Jesus really do or say that? When I get tired, I usually wind up at QVC watching programs designed to make you haul out your credit card and say, I’ll take that!

I’m pretty careful. I’ve only ordered once from  QVC and I love the solar lights I got for the front walk. They’re in their second winter and still going. Sometimes they only glimmer a little because they too need the sun to shine. As a Christian, I’m supposed to be shining too, not hiding my light under a bushel. This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…Even though I’m not out much, I enjoy my phone a lot. It’s good to have conversations on meaningful topics. It helps me focus on Jesus, who is the Light of the World.

Focus. On what God wants me to do. Focus on who I am today, not what I was yesterday, nor what I think I might earn by being good. I believe God honors what we do, but all He really wants is for me to love and obey Him. He said it, I believe it, and that settles it. Grace, unmerited favor. His gift to us all.
