When I learn of what some people call a “God Wink” happens, I find it raises questions for me. A good friend of mine gave me a refrigerator magnet that reads “A coincidence is when God does a miracle and doesn’t want to take credit for it.” I think these “God Winks” remind us that He is with us, He cares for us, and whether we acknowledge Him or not, He is always working.
God does answer our prayers: Yes, No, Maybe. We feel like we’re in God’s waiting room. But He is working on His time not ours. A good friend of mine experienced this yesterday. She was at the church and had something to drop off to me. So she took the back road to my house, which has lots of hills, turns and curves before you get here. She stopped at the driveway to the church, then pulled in behind a pickup with a snow blade coming my way. She herself was driving a huge truck with massive wheels. When she came into our garage, she said to me with a strange look on her face, “Your road was blocked.”
She told me as she followed the truck ahead of her with its blade raised she was thinking about me. All of a sudden, the truck slowed and almost stopped. The road, she told me, had been plowed all along, but she could also tell there had been big drifts that had been plowed earlier. As she waited for the truck ahead of her to start moving again, the driver lowered the snow plow. At that moment she realized the road was totally blocked all the way across. The driver plowed their way through for both of them and was on his way again. She came through and got to me just fine. But we both agreed: God Wink!
We shared how God’s timing was at work in this situation. When did the driver of the snow plowing pickup have to leave home in order to be there to be ahead of her going up the road? How did she decide that it was then that she was ready to wait at the driveway for him to go by? Some people do not believe God bothers with all these “little” things like snowdrifts on a country road. God’s timing is always right, even if we don’t agree with it sometimes. He’s never late, it’s His timing He works by and He’s always working even when we can’t see it.
Isaiah 40:1-2 “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith your God. 2. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”
