I Want My Mommy

by Joanne Wiklund

This afternoon standing in my kitchen, all of a sudden I thought, “I want my mommy.” I have seen variations of that so often on Facebook or in the titles of books for sale. Parents, we don’t get to pick. God does that for us. He doesn’t make mistakes, but sometimes we feel questionable about it, especially during our teen years.

Even now I remember so many questions I had about so many things. She always seemed to have an answer, a good one, an answer that worked. It would be first of all, true, and secondly, an option I hadn’t thought of. More each day now, I’m struck by the things I know because she took time to teach me and my four siblings.  Her love and care comforted me often. Her support and encouragement got me through tough times throughout my life.

I believe being a mother is a privilege God has set as a  path for us, in His own time, His own way. I believe being a mom is worth the wait to see how he works it out. Children are designed to be a parents’ priority by God Himself. I believe that is not the path for every woman, however, because God gave us all free will. We have to make choices in this world, and accepting His will for our lives is part of the whole Mother role.

Job 17:23 “Oh, that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book.”  24. That they were graven with an iron pen, and lead in the rock forever.” 25. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.”

Matthew 12:50 “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
