Children on my Mind

by Joanne Wiklund

Since school started locally this week, children have been on my mind. The school bus rolls by now without stopping, as it has for a long time. Traffic in our immediate neighborhood has slowed some also. College will be starting soon if it hasn’t already. Everyone seems to be on the move.

With an election looming and the whole process leaving us with dread and doubt, even freedom seems to be threatened at this point. As Christians, we look for truth so we can make good choices, but even truth seems far away sometimes. Yet, we know who is really in charge. But that doesn’t mean we can sit back and let everyone else take care of things. Every day I ask God what my path for the day should be. I try to do that, but sometimes I get busy with other things. You know what busy is? Rearrange the letters in that word and you can spell “By Us.” That’s how we think things get done. That’s not necessarily so.  As we age, it takes us longer to do the things we used to do until we reach a point where we wonder how did we ever do all we did? What in the world happened? Where did the time go?

Have I been doing what He wants me to do? It’s so easy to get distracted, disappointed or unhappy at the state of the world. We can, however, do a single thing every day to make the world a better place. Show love, not just to children or old people. Try to love everyone. We don’t have to like everyone, but we do have to care about them and pray for them. We can also rest assured of the power of our God to change things that are not right. His power is awesome, we are His children. He loves us and showed us that love by adopting us into His family. We must choose, however, to be a part of the process. Find a way to do what God would have you do as your part in the world. Sew seeds for Him. Smile. Someone said this week that the word Faith stands for Forsaking All I Trust Him. Onward! Get ready to vote! Inform yourself and others, prayerfully and kindly.

Ephesians  5:1-2 “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2. and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling saviour.”

Ephesians 5:19-20 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20. giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our lord Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
