Maybe We Have Angst

by Joanne Wiklund

Throughout the current election cycle reports of how the mental state of the population of the US was doing was being defined by educated pundits everywhere. The word Angst was being tossed around a lot. My personal definition was vague and unsettling.  I guess I’ve been suffering from it and hadn’t identified it as the cause.

My New American Dictionary defines angst | äNG(k)st as a noun. According to it: “Angst is a feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world in general.”

Now I feel we are moving too fast into the new administration. Inauguration Day is not until January 20th. We need to unify this country from God’s perspective. It could be the subject of meetings to help people remember that even if we disagree with someone we don’t have to hate them. We need to teach our children how to resolve differences without fighting. I get tired of everything being a fight, whether it’s elections, sports, building projects or the economy. Jesus alone can remove our angst. He is in charge and we need to remember that.

We need to give Him credit for opportunities now for both sides to come together at last and make bipartisan decisions about problems that affect us all. We can’t really change every thing, but He needs our help to resolve things. We can pray that hearts can be changed when people accept Him. Step out to Him when He calls you. As Christians we are called to Come to Jesus and Go to the world. Are we ready to do that?

Luke 8:1-3 “And it came to pass afterward that He went throughout every city and village,  preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with him.  And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdelene, out of whom were seven devils. And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.”
