Change that Stinkin’ Thinkin’!!

by Joanne Wiklund

Trials of the day. Seems like there are always some. Right now it’s as if we get to pick which one to try to handle first. Not always tough. We get up in the morning and if we’ve slept well, we feel almost prepared to face the day. Not though, until we remember that today is a gift and we need to use it wisely. That’s what is so tough, I think, when we remember what might be in store for the day.

Our attitude is so important. A book on my shelf by Zig Ziglar is one of the well worn ones up there. He spent a great deal of time through the years trying to free people from what he called “Stinkin’ Thinkin.” We were privileged to hear him speak in person a few times while we were selling books. “See You At The Top” is one I sold to a very young Lane Evans in a fair booth at the Mercer County Fair. Many years ago.

A change in attitude by our children is something we often work toward when rearing them. We may even learn then that their attitude is not always the one that needs to be changed. We need to look in the mirror while thinking about attitude. My mean face came out the other day and that mirror yelled at me as I went by. A session with a much younger family member helped a great deal to help me adjust my attitude. The problem still exists but I feel differently about it and I’m for a fair resolution. Problems can be overcome but you have to remember who you are and who you stand for.

Every day we have the opportunity to change our mind about something and change our “Stinkin’ Thinkin.” The Golden Rule was taught to me early on in life. Fair is not always the outcome we get, but it’s usually what we long for.

1 John 4:4 “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

Romans 8:16 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:”

John 16:27-28 “For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.”  28 “I came forth from the Father and am come into the world: again I leave the world and go to the Father.”
