Having a new five month old grandson reminds me how little we could do when we were born. We had to learn to do everything. We learn to crawl and we learn to walk before we can run. We learn how to ride a bike and we learn how to read and write. I believe we are supposed to be lifelong learners.
I hate COVID-19. I don’t like wearing a mask. I’m frustrated with the wide range of “scientific “ viewpoints. I am perplexed as to how it can so mildly affect some and so devastatingly affect others. I just hate COVID-19.
As we head into November, most of us think about Thanksgiving and that’s a good thing. We need to be reminded to be thankful…we need to learn to be thankful. Here are three things COVID-19 has done but I am thankful for:
- Covid forced us to reach out to people in new ways that we would not have without it. I’m thinking of technology such as zoom meetings and Facebook live worship services. Covid forced this on us and that has helped us connect to people far away with a fresh new format.
- Covid has tested my patience. I don’t like to admit it but I don’t like to have my patience tested. However, I know it’s the only way I grow and the only way I learn patience. One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience. And I do well to learn it.
- And finally, Covid has put us in touch with our own mortality. It’s healthy to reflect on the fact that this life is temporary. And it’s even better to think about the life that is to come. It should help us to be ready to meet Jesus. Every day.
I still hate Covid. But there are things I can learn in the midst of it.
