God Bless America

by Joanne Wiklund

The Fourth of July, Independence Day Holiday. We’re celebrating it on the actual Fourth. Oh, I know celebrations began last week and the week end has been active to say the least.

We are, as a country now more Interdependent than truly Independent and free. Recent years with the supply chain problems and the pandemic have made that much more obvious. The world has gotten smaller.

Drafted by Thomas Jefferson and signed by 56 patriots, the Declaration of Independence states in their words “a unanimous declaration of the thirteen United States of America assert our independence from Great Britain.” The document begins with a statement of rights and acknowledges where the power comes from. The document mentions the Creator, Truth and the injustices of the King. As proof they state that “the facts be submitted to a candid world.”

After stating those facts, they showed their intent “that these United Colonies are, and of right, ought to be, Free and Independent States.” They followed that with “And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor.”

Committed? I’d say so. They understood that with rights come responsibilities. So many people have served this country with hope and honor. May God continue to bless America.

1 John 2:28 “Little children, abide in Him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him, at his coming,”

1 John 3:2 “But we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
