Who am I? Who am I Choosing to Be?

By Joanne Wiklund

With all the focus on Mother’s Day, I couldn’t help but think about mine. Ours, rather. My siblings have often teased me when I refer to our parents as MY mother or MY father, not OUR parents. I guess if you want to think about how I feel about them, being possessive is as personal as it gets. I always had to share them with four siblings, but in MY memories they are MINE!

Isn’t it funny how we think about people in general? Meeting new people is  something I’ve always enjoyed. I had so many opportunities to meet folks hither and yon, but loved having them into OUR home. Now it’s MY home and getting used to that ain’t easy. Popeye said I Yam what I Yam, but I’ve found out we can change who we are at any age. The big problem, the answer to Who Am I Now? is Who Am I Choosing To Be?

Life really is all about Choices, choices we make minute by minute throughout each day to be all God has planned for us to be. I heard someone say this week  that being thankful is the first step to God’s plan for our life. At my advancing years, looking back I can see so many places I could have gone astray. Some I did. The choices I made made the difference. MY mom taught me to choose God’s way, do the right thing, is the best way. She wasn’t perfect, but she was MY mom! And for that, I am thankful.

Psalm 116:12-17 “What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me? 13. I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord. 14.
I will pay my vows unto the Lord now in the presence of all His people. 17. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of Thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.”
