If You’re Happy and You Know It

by Joanne Wiklund

If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands… I think we’ve all sung that song with little kids and enjoyed every minute of it. When a child is truly happy, their eyes sparkle, they laugh a lot. Some people have a really happy positive nature. Others have to work really hard to be happy under any circumstances.

So where do we fit on the spectrum of happy or sad? Are they the same, happy and joy? Remember He said He would be leaving Peace and Love also. I have said sometimes about Peace, if He left it with me what have I done with it? They are all choices but they come from different places

Glad, according to the dictionary I use, is a precursor of Happiness. It leads to it because GLAD is more superficial in levels of emotion. Happiness at simply being alive can pop right out of us when we hit the floor on our feet running to meet our day and our obligations. Joy seems to work its way from our hearts to our head before we leave the bed some days. We listen to birds sing. We hit the snooze button, but stay awake, contemplating our day ahead.

Right there, we can make a choice. We can let our joy in Christ start our day with Peace. Or we can leap out and hunt for happiness. Either way, we aren’t robots. We get to choose which one permeates our life and our situations. Choice. Free will. Choose to let the Trinity in.

Psalms 92:1-2 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O  Most High.  To show forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.

92:4 “For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph through the works of thy hands.”
