Mothering by Mom

by Joanne Wiklund

As I check out  online sites and posts, I find so often that women are posting about missing their moms. What’s not to miss? Someone who loves us unconditionally, was created just for us by God. Someone who tries so hard to help us be happy with who we are or what’s going on at any given time.

Of course, that’s my experience talking here. Your mom might not have been like that. That’s what makes moms so unique.  Of course, they too have had their times of stress, anxiety, and trauma. But somehow, as we age, we realize how important they were to our upbringing. How often did we go in the front door of the house, apartment, or farmhouse saying Mommmm!?

We know she’s really never been totally gone. Some days, I look in the mirror and see her there. Noting the same features rearranged to be me, I find myself doing things which make me think at the time: There’s Mom. That’s what she taught me to do. Dad, too, in that reference. So many times we get a little whisper in our ear, a touch on our heart or mind, and we just remember what she told us so frequently, Honey, it’ll be Alright! Generally was. If not, she was there to do what she could to help.

So often, when we are back to the wall from stress and related issues, we take a deep breath and pray. Not a gimme prayer, but a prayer of thanks to God for making this woman our mom. God is not only good, He is Awesome! Mom, too. Happy Mother’s Day.

When Jesus therefore saw his mother and a disciple standing by whom he loved, he said unto his mother, “Woman, behold thy son.”  Then said he to the disciple, “ Behold thy mother.”  And from that hour, that disciple took her unto his own home,

II Timothy NIV 1: 7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline (sound mind).

Philippians 4:8 TLV “ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable- if there is anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
