Halloween vs. Peace

by Joanne Wiklund

Tomorrow is either a scary day or a peaceful one. I don’t like to be scared, was that way too much as a child. Today I think about Halloweens I had in years past, and I look forward to November! Happy Halloween is a phrase I hope really works. Some people make the day a happy day for others, and some just want peace in the midst of all the turmoil.

Peace is to be accepted, not earned. It’s right here in us and our job is to call it up. We want peace in our heart, home, workplace and world. Most of all we want personal peace which comes from our faith. Think of all the sermons we’ve heard through the years about peace, the peace that passes understanding. See, that’s what I keep learning about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Peace is what they offer us constantly and we have to choose it. Joy is a part of peace, I believe, and we can have Joy and Peace in the midst of great sorrow.

That’s where many of us are today. Praying hard and constantly for peace in the Middle East and around the world. I read a treatise of sorts in trending stories on my cell phone this week and it shook me up. A very educated person used the phrase “the mythology of Christianity.” Shocked me it did. Christianity is not a myth. Jesus proved it with his death, burial and resurrection. Personal peace is available to all believers.

1 Peter 3:10-11 For he that will love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and that they speak no guile:  11. Let him eschew evil, and do good: let him seek peace and ensure it.

11 Timothy 3:15-17 And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation, through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16. All Scripture is  given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 17. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
